Julia Graves is a Milwaukee-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and educator whose work blends jazz, pop, indie rock, soul, and singer-songwriter influences into emotionally driven original music. She holds dual degrees from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies and from University of Wisconsin–Parkside in Music Performance – Jazz Studies.
As a performer, Julia moves fluidly between laid-back yet captivating singer-songwriter performances and high-energy live entertainment for weddings and corporate events. Whether performing intimate original music or bringing live tenor saxophone to the dance floor alongside DJs and wedding bands, she is passionate about creating memorable experiences that connect deeply with audiences. She has performed throughout the Milwaukee area at venues including Cactus Club, Vendetta Coffee Bar, Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co., Art Bar, and Canni Cafe, while also appearing in pit orchestras for theatrical productions and collaborative projects throughout Wisconsin.
In addition to performing, Julia is a dedicated music educator who teaches private lessons in saxophone, flute, and clarinet, as well as general elementary music through the Community Partnerships program at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. She is passionate about making music education creative, expressive, and accessible for young students throughout the Milwaukee community.
Julia’s artistry is rooted in storytelling, vulnerability, and emotional honesty. Drawing inspiration from pop, indie rock, jazz, and alternative music, her work explores themes of desire, empowerment, grief, resilience, and self-reflection. Through symbolic imagery and deeply personal songwriting, she aims to create music that feels both intimate and cathartic.
She is currently preparing for the release of her debut album, HEAD RUSH, arriving August 7, 2026, with an album release show at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. on August 20. The project tells the story of coping with and surviving sexual assault while continuing to work, perform, and build a life as a musician. Through genre-blending soundscapes and storytelling, HEAD RUSH explores the complexities of healing, identity, and reclaiming one’s voice through art.
Julia is excited to continue building community through performance, education, and emotionally resonant storytelling as part of Milwaukee’s growing independent music scene.
